Since Rihanna\u2019s very public incursions into Barbados carnival, a light has been shed on a well-loved tradition shared across Caribbean cultures. In Guadeloupe, carnival season runs at full tilt from the end of December to as late as early March.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For maybe a decade now, we\u2019ve felt the influence of Barbados\u2019 Crop Over festival and Brazil\u2019s carnival on our music and costumes, but <strong>Akiyo<\/strong> remains the undisputed guardian of the Guadeloupean carnival spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-spotify wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-embed-aspect-9-16 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe A frenetic chocolate hunt in your garden? When everyone occasionally drops flowers on their loved ones\u2019 grave, us Guadeloupeans we have to do extra.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On All Saints Day, families gather in the cemeteries at night to lit candles on their deceased&#8217;s tombs. I know it sounds creepy\u2026 like who wanders in a cemetery at night?! But no, I swear it\u2019s not. It&#8217;s quite fun actually.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not only everyone is out there, but the cemeteries are beautifully drenched in candle lights and shine all through the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We love celebrating life.
